Getting Our Hands Dirty, Literally

If you’ve spent any time on Instagram or Facebook, you know that houseplants are having a moment. But posting pics of your plants and keeping them alive are two very different things. Enter Greendigs’ Living Design Experience, a new pop-up retail concept in Columbus, Ohio, where customers can get their hands dirty and learn the ins and outs of caring for their plants.

The new concept was designed and produced by the acclaimed NYC design studio David Stark Design. When the team at David Stark Design needed to fabricate and install flooring, as well as create window graphics and a unique interior mural, they engaged the team at 3dx.

In phase one of the project, which wrapped in mid-November 2020, 3dx created a window display that promoted the new Greendigs experience. Our team printed and installed window graphics, wrapped scenic pieces with printed vinyl, and provided two additional team members to assist the David Stark Design team with installation of other scenic elements.

In early January 2021, the 3dx team completed phase two by installing the flooring, new window graphics, and the wall mural. We also supplied four team members to assist with the installation of additional scenic elements. The flooring was made from MDO sheets with a repeatable pattern CNC-engraved into them before being painted with a solid green border around the perimeter of the space.

As with any custom retail build out project, many challenges presented themselves along the way. In the days leading up to the soft opening, several contractors were in the space at one time each endeavoring to complete their respective scope of work. Through this final fury of activity, the 3dx team remained focused on completing the flooring and graphics installation on schedule offering plenty of time for them to stop and smell the roses.
